The Art of Food
by Mary Louise;Town Jaqua, Health Minister 10/8/2020
It is fall and the harvest is
happening! The fields, trees, and bushes are
brimming with the goodness of the land, namely real
food as food
should be: fresh fruit, vegetables, greens,
seeds, and nuts! Walk through
a local farmers' market, a home garden, and
supermarkets and be
enthused about eating in a whole new dimension.
Feast your eyes on
the variety of fresh foods at your fingertips.
Notice the colors, shapes,
and sizes that distinguish one from the other.
Each has a distinct
function, characteristic or signature
that comes from the hand of the
Creator Himself. Some call it science
while others call it art, for indeed
everything has
a season, and a time to every purpose under the
heaven
(Ecclesiastes 3:1).
The purpose of food is to feed the
body, to sustain the life force so
that the body can function properly. The human
body is often described
as a finely-designed and engineered machine,
being the evidence of
superior intelligence and craftsmanship. The
wonders of the body have
been studied for centuries by scientists and
health professionals alike.
The human body has also been a popular subject of
artists. Likewise
food has been a classic, re-occuring theme in art
for centuries.
Aside from all the attention given
the human body, there exists yet
another often-overlooked aspect relating to it,
namely the body's
relationship to food. This relationship proves to
be educational,
practical, as well as inspiring, since it borders
on what we call art.
So it is that we discover a new
dimension to foods that otherwise might
be hidden, giving us a new understanding of the
importance of foods
in relation to our well being.
FOOD: Color for health
Color is a natural part of life, be it
found in nature or otherwise. It is an
expression that evokes meaning on many levels,
eliciting a response
physically, mentally, emotionally, and
spiritually. Color is thus known
to be closely associated with healing. This being
true, color of foods
is found to relate to their respective function,
a fact that proves both
practical and beneficial.
Red Blood building, heart strengthening
(red beets, tomatoes, peppers, cranberries,
strawberries, etc.)
Orange Anti-inflammatory, happiness in
action
(oranges, tangerines, winter squash, cantelope,
etc.)
Yellow Tissue building, tissue repair,
immune system development
(summer squash, tomatoes, yellow string beans,
peaches, etc.)
Green Neutralizer, deodorizer, detoxifier,
liver cleanser
(green beans, kale, collards, chard, zucchini,
etc.)
Blue Creativity, stem cells, bone marrow,
throat, thyroid
(blueberries)

protector, brain and eye nourishing
(eggplant, concord grapes, plums, purple cabbage,
etc.)
Brown Intestines, digestive tract tonic
(dates. mushrooms, etc.)

and the immune system, tabula rasa, source energy

FOOD: Shape for health
Shape
is another important part of life, for it defines
our environment and
those things associated with it. In one way or
another all matter has form.
It is curious if not surprising then that the
shapes of fruit, vegetables, nuts,
seeds, and greens can and often do reveal their
function in relation to the
human body. These three dimensional foods are
like 'mini-sculptures'
that give important insight into personal well
being.
Carrots for healthy
eyes
Celery, bok
choy, rhubarb for healthy bones
Grapes for
healthy lungs
Kidney
beans for healthy kidneys
Ginger for
healthy digestion
Mushrooms
for ear health
Walnuts for
a healthy brain
Sweet potato for a
healthy pancreas
Olives for healthy ovaries
Avocadoes for a healthy womb,
cervix,
and hormone balance
Figs for
healthy sperm count and function
FOOD: Edible Art
Substance that is sourced from the earth was
placed here
by the Almighty for the benefit of mankind.
Though this
substance comes in many forms, much of it is
commonly
called food. Visit a farmer's
market, supermarket, a road-
side food stand, walk through an orchard or
stroll through a
home garden to experience the wonders and
beauty of
natural food! Feast your eyes on the colors,
shapes, sizes,
textures, and fragrances associated with
fruit, vegetables,
greens, nuts, and seeds. Likewise flip
through a seed catalog
and marvel at the endless varieties of edible
art.
Make
no mistake about it. There is an intelligence
behind
food. It is more than a science. It is the
handiwork of YHVH
Almighty, Master Artist, Who created food, fabulous
food,
for our well being: foods that are both
visually pleasing and
gastronomically healthy. Who dares question
the artistry of
the Most High or denies His sovereign wisdom,
love, and
care in custom-making food, glorious food for
us so that
we can be vibrantly healthy and prosper?
Living
well has become a popular trend, but how many
living are well? Without a doubt
there is an art to living well,
and it starts by making healthier food
choices: ones that are
naturally-sourced, i.e. drawn from the earth,
and come in
assorted colors, shapes, and sizes with
visual 'signatures'
that invite us to 'come and dine.'
So it is that true food is living, edible art
that keeps us well
in the purest sense. Therefore step up to the
plate. Be
inspired. Be daring. Eat a salad. Make a
smoothie. Munch
on a carrot. Bite into an apple. No matter
your choice, be
hungry for the foods that nourish your body.
Be well by eating
beautiful, healthy 'edible art.'
Beloved, I wish above all things
that thou mayest prosper and be in health,
even as thy soul prospereth.- 3 John 1:2
Then the EVER-LIVING said,
"Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed
that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree
which has fruit yielding seed;
it shall be food for you;.- Genesis 1:29 (NASB)
