Oil. It is a common commodity. We use it to stop a squeaky door hinge, lubricate the car, polish furniture, grease a baking pan, dress a salad, and more; but who ever heard of using oil for your teeth? Believe it or not, 'oiling' your teeth can have amazing health benefits.

OIL PULLING: What is it?
Oil pulling is an ancient, oral health practice that involves 'swishing' a small amount of oil in the mouth for 10-20 minutes
and then spitting it out. This procedure cleans/detoxifies the
mouth by drawing out toxins in the gums, on the teeth, the tongue, mouth tissue, and more. The pulling/suction action creates a clean, antiseptic oral environment that aids proper flow of dental liquid which is needed for preventing cavities and disease. Oil pulling is generally known to eliminate bacteria as well as heavy metals.

OIL PULLING: Health benefits
Oil pulling is knows to prevent, ameliorate or eliminate a number of health problems, including chronic health conditions. It is therefore considered a therapy as well as a curative, for it purifies the entire body via the mouth cavity since the tongue connects to different organs such as the kidneys, lungs, heart, small intestines, stomach, colon, and spine. Due to its ability to interact throughout the whole body, oil pulling is likened in effect to reflexology.

Benefits of oil pulling:

  • Helps prevent cavities and gingivitis
  • An aid for bleeding gums
  • Decreases tooth sensitivity
  • Whitens teeth
  • Helps to prevent dryness of the lips, mouth, and throat
  • Strengthens the jaws and helps alleviate soreness and pain
  • Helps prevent oral infections and inflammation
  • Reduces plaque build-up
  • Improves or eliminates bad breath

Apart from enhancing oral hygiene, oil pulling proves efficacious in addressing other health problems by

  • Strengthening the immune system
  • Providing relief from migraines, arthritis, allergies, PMS,
sinus congestion, insomnia, and chronic illnesses
  • Boosting the digestion system
  • Eliminating skin eruptions (acne) and wrinkles
  • Eliminating heavy metal build-up in the body
  • Improving energy
  • Increasing HDL cholesterol, lowering LDL cholesterol

The ability of oil pulling to pull out toxins/poisons throughout the whole body gives credence to the fact that most health problems are the result of a toxic build-up in cells, tissues, and organs. Poisons, by definition, have an adverse effect on the body's overall function. Thus cleaning out toxins promotes cellular
restoration and growth.

Oil pulling is an advantageous health practice because it is simple, cost-effective, and takes little time to do. It can be a life-changer for people who are unable to brush their teeth due
to mouth ulcers, fevers, and indigestion as well as those with a tendency to vomit, cough or thirst.

OIL PULLING: How-to

Choose a healthy, unrefined oil such as coconut, sesame or sunflower. Coconut oil is recommended above all other oils
because it contains a healthy fatty acid called lauric acid that
has strong antimicrobial and antiviral properties which are
known to

  • balance hormones and blood sugar
  • increase HDL cholesterol and lower LDL cholesterol
  • improve energy
  • battle candida
  • improve digestion
  • moisturize skin

Method:

  1. Measure out 1 tsp-1 Tablespoon of oil and put it in your mouth
  2. Swish the oil around in your mouth for 15–20 minutes,
being careful not to swallow any. Newbies to oil pulling
may want to start 'swishing' 1 teaspoon for 5 minutes
and work up to 1 Tablespoon 15-20 minutes.
  3. Spit out the oil into a paper towel or trash can once you’re done. Do not spit it into the sink or toilet as it can cause a buildup of oil that could clog pipes.
  4. Rinse your mouth well using filtered water and brush your teeth before eating or drinking anything.

When
For best results oil pulling should be done first thing in the
morning on an empty stomach.
Oil pulling can be done daily
or a few times a week, depending on preference.

OIL PULLING: conclusion
While studies into the efficacy of oil pulling are limited, it is an ancient practice that proves to be a safe and effective natural remedy to improve oral health and more. Since it is an easy, inexpensive, convenient maintenance option for the whole body, it can be considered an important tool for personal health care.
Given its many benefits, oil pulling can revolutionize your life.
So try it! You have nothing to lose except what you don't need
or want!

Wow! What a great way to preserve
my teeth and revitalize my whole body!
