2. Ministry update

Dear Friends,

If I didn't know better, I'd say it is SPRING! Temperatures
in Maine have been delightfully balmy for several weeks,
causing those with cabin fever to bolt outside and drink in
the sun and air. Nevertheless, we Mainers celebrate the
warm with caution, knowing that winter may not, in fact, be
over. After all, it has snowed in May. While recalling such
chilly reminders of years past can dampen one's spirit,
we are optimistic that our spring has sprung unusually early
this year and will not be spoiled by remnants of winter. So
it is that we find great delight in seeing the ground again
and discovering that some leftovers from last year's garden
are already greening up. These gentle, green reminders
hold great inspiration for the would-be gardener who fondly
looks over the land with visions of lettuce, kale, cucumbers,
tomatoes, etc. dancing in the head. Soon it will be time to
engage the ground again for the sake of optimum health!

While we once again enjoy the great outdoors and
contemplate our 2010 garden, thoughts turn to the subject of
food production. Allowing for the importance of this topic,
our HANDS-ON HEALTH meeting this week will feature
the documentary,
'FOOD, Inc.' This expose of food
production in America promises to educate on the ins and
outs of the food industry. If you value food, your hard-earned
dollar, and your health, you will want to see this eye-opening
film. What you learn could convince you to make healthier
choices for yourself and your family. For more information
about our up-coming HANDS-ON HEALTH meeting

By way of report, our fourth annual LIVE FOOD DINNER
was a resounding success.
Twenty six attendees enjoyed
a live smorgasbord of incredibly delicious salads, soups,
nut dishes, and desserts. There were few, if any leftovers!
The evening was topped off with Tom Murphy's excellent
presentation about industriual hemp. Enthusiasm ran high
and questions abounded as Tom filled us in on the history,
uses, and politics of hemp cultivation in the US. Everyone
left with glowing reports of an evening well-spent and
asked for more! Many are now hungering to feast on live
food more often. We'll see where this corporate appetite
takes us! Stay tuned!

Meanwhile, those of us at The Living Way are seeing a
surge of interest in the health message. Private counselling
sessions are on the increase as are private 'show-and-tells'
in our kitchen. Invariably I am blending up green smoothies
and passing them around. At every opportunity, we
encourage the live food lifestyle by showing others that
eating healthy is not only tasty but fun! Be part of the action
by sharing the good news, 'You don't have to be sick!'

To help spread the health message, a new Video On
Demand (VOD) is being aired on Time-Warner
Channel 9 Cable TV in the New England area. 'The
Raw Diet'
is the work of fellow health enthusiast, Ed Porter,
who interviewed Drs. George Malkmus and Brian Clement
when in Maine last fall. Ed's production is what I consider a
fine appetizer for the TV audience, giving an introduction
to the live food lifestyle. We hope the video will be well-
received and elicit a demand for more. Thank you, Ed, for
stepping up to the plate to help spread the health message!

In closing, we appreciate the efforts of each one who is
persevering to gain a better quality of life and overcome (in
some cases) life-threatening illnesses. Many are making
excellent progress, for which we are thankful. However, it
is our sad duty to report that not all lives have happy endings.
Within the last few months, we have lost three who refused
the Hallelujah Diet. Another is slowly dying of cancer at the
hands of the medical profession, having refused to change
his diet. These tragedies need not be. So it is that many
perish by choice. We are sorry for the SAD commentary,
but may this report be a sobering reminder that diet does
have a profound impact on one's life destiny. Therefore
make every effort to take life seriously. The choice is up
to you.

3) Feature Article: "The Importance of Oil"

When it comes to resources, oil ranks as one of the world's
most precious, sought-after commodities. It shapes lives,
governments, and nations. There is hardly a way that oil
does not touch our lives daily. Nevertheless, for all the vast
importance placed upon oil, little emphasis is given to the
body's need for oil. Much like a finely-built machine, the
body requires oil to function properly. Thus, understanding
the importance and nature of oil becomes imperative for
the achievement of optimum health.

Research proves that not all oils are friendly to the body.
There are healthy oils and not-so-healthy oils. Technically
speaking, oils are fats that are derived from mostly plant
sources. Many kinds of fats/oils exist: saturated fats,
monosaturated fats, polyunsaturated fats, transfatty acids
hydrogenated oils, partially dehydrogenated oils, and
more. Without a doubt, a controversy over oils and fats
has errupted lately, and wars are currently being waged
concerning what fat/oil is good or bad. While the debate
continues, the fact remains that certain fats are essential
for the life of the body. Without proper and regular 'oiling',
cells die, body systems shut down, degeneration (disease)
sets in, and death results.

The Raw Table
While surfing the web for a recipe the other day, I happily
came across a site that piqued my interest. Simple in
form and content plus tastefully done, The Raw Table offers
raw foodies a variety of goodies. For a look into Anna
Tipp's raw world, visit

Barrels Market
If you are in the market to purchase Maine-made products,
including locally-grown produce, stop by Barrels Market in
downtown Waterville. This down-to-earth, friendly market is
a breath of fresh air for health-conscious folks who favor
supporting local growers and artisans over corporate
agri-businesses. Barrels has farm-fresh organic produce,
grains, beans, granolas, and locally prepared/processed
foods. Treat yourself to hand-made kitchenware, jewelry,
clothing, accessories, and stationery items. Participate in
special events and classes. If it's grass-roots, it's probably
happening at Barrels. Stop in for a taste of Maine at its
best. Visit Barrels on the web at

6) LIVING Recipe: Chocolate Pudding

Since adopting the Hallelujah Diet, chocolate disappeared from our lives for no other reason than we no longer hungered for it. A few months ago, however, my tastebuds took a turn. They wanted something chocolate. So, I pulled out a bag of raw cacao powder that we had purchased many months ago but never opened. Now, I decided, it was time to try this popular and prized superfood. A few smoothies, dessert 'soups,' and special puddings later I can see why chocolate is a delightful delicacy. Here is a simple, raw approach to a popular pudding that is easy to make and pleasant to the pallette.

2 small-medium apples
1 celery stalk
1 Tbsp. shredded coconut (unsweetened/unsulphured)
1 rounded tsp. raw cacao powder (or raw carob powder)
1 rounded tsp. hemp protein powder (rich in EFAs!)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. coriander
1 cup approx. purified water

Blend ingredients with enough water to achieve a creamy,
smooth consistency. This is a very rich pudding! For added
variety, blend in 1/2 avocado if you dare. Savor and smile!

Organic ingredients recommended.
