Ministry update
Dear
Friends,
Greetings
from the balmy reaches of the Northeast where
temperatures are edging up into the 70's, causing
Mainers
to rejoice in what appears to be a good, old
fashioned spring.
Despite a few cold snaps here and there, the promise
of
warmer days raises the hope of locals that this year
we
will, indeed, have a spring and summer season!
Already
I have ventured out into the backyard to investigate
the
garden, sensing with anticipation the joy of working
the
ground again. Soon I will take the outrageously bold
step
to sow our peas and greens. It will be our earliest
planting
yet! Read my 2010 garden log here.
While the landscape is awakening from a happily mild
winter, thoughts of health and healing continue
foremost
in our lives. Lives are being changed as the health
ministry
grows in marvelous, new ways! Last month's HANDS-ON
HEALTH meeting was attended by a choice few who
viewed (ever so soberly) our featured video, 'FOOD,
Inc.'
This documentary about the industrialization of
American
food production was compelling evidence to those
present
that something is terribly array with our nation's
approach
to farming, manufacturing, marketing, and concept of
eating.
If you missed last month's meeting and live locally,
catch the
rerun on Channel 7 public access TV where the meeting
lives on. DVDs are also available.
Next
week our HANDS-ON HEALTH meeting will focus
on 'pH'. Discussed will be the inside story
on the importance
of pH and how it affects health. Proper body
chemistry is
the foundation of superior health. If you are new to
this subject, plan to join us for what could be the
education of a lifetime.

This
month's feature article, 'PARASITES: Unwanted
House
Guests,' addresses a little-known but
important subject. While
I dislike writing on what I consider the 'dark side'
of life, but I
realize that your better health is at stake. Please
take time
to read this short, eye-opening expose into the why's
and
wherefores of parasitic infections. Growing up, I
remember
my brother grinding his teeth in his sleep. Mother
said he was
having a bad dream. I know now that it wasn't a bad
dream
but a nightmare called parasites.
This article promises to be
an 'up-close-and-personal' challenge. If sales of
FiberCleanse
rise sharply after sending this newsletter, I will
know that
the article has been well received!
By way of update, we LivingWay-ers decided to treat
ourselves by attending a couple of local events that
are
enhance our natural lifestyle. First, we
attended the annual
Seed Swap/Scion Exchange sponsored by the Maine
Organic Farmers and Growers Association (MOFGA)
in Unity. This is one of our favorite forms
of healthy
'entertainment': sharing with other locals who are
actively
engaged in the art of agriculture. We participated in
the
seed swap, helping ourselves to seed varieties
brought in by
others and offered some heirloom seeds from our own
garden. I had high hopes of exchanging some of our
apple
tree scions for other varieties, but my scions were
not
acceptable. Suffice to say, I had an 'on-site'
education on
scion gathering, etc. In additional to swaping and
learning
about scions, we attended two inspiring workshops:
"Building
a Food Forest" and 'Grafting Fruit Trees.' Both
sessions
offered information that we will gladly implement in
our
continued quest to be good stewards of the land.
Secondly,
we attended the March RawMaine meet-up
potluck. It had
been a long time since participating in one of these
gatherings,
so we were happy to reconnect with raw locals and
share a
delicious meal. Heart-felt testimonies and
thought-provoking
discussions highlighted the evening. We look forward
to
strengthing our raw ties within the state for the
sake of
a healthier community. See what you can do in your
area to help build a better world.
Speaking of same, the recent passage of the Health
Care Bill
serves as a resounding alert to all Americans who
choose to
be healthy the natural way as opposed to
participating in
organized medicine. This bill has the potential of
making the
pursuit of a wholesome lifestyle impossible, if not
criminal.
We encourage you to investigate the details of this
controversial 'Health Care' Bill and become
proactive. If you
trust the government to take care of you, think
again. For
information on the all-important health freedom issue
visit
http://www.healthfreedomusa.org
As our
outreach expands and the health message is embraced
by increased numbers, we anticipate more live food
events will
eventuate. Local, monthly potlucks are close to being
organized
and live food demonstrations are a possibility. These
events
are dependent upon group interest, so if you would
like to
participate, let us know.
In closing, we appreciate your continued support of
this ministry
through your purchases and tithes. Thanks to
increased funding,
we have been able to invest in long-needed kitchen
equipment.
After many years of struggling with second-hand
appliances,
we are now blessed to have a new Kitchen Aid
food
processor. It is a joy to use and helps to
save time and
energy in the kitchen. We rejoice! As we all grow
healthy
together, wonderful things take place!

3) Feature
Article: 'PARASITES: Unwanted House Guests'
Spring is the time of
year when we joyously bid farewell to
winter by flinging open windows and doors to engage
in the
age old practice called 'house cleaning.' This annual
ritual of
dusting off, washing down, scrubbing up, weeding out,
and
rearranging one's living space proves that quality of
life does
matter: a clean as opposed to a dirty house is a
happier,
healthier dwelling place. Likewise, the human body is
a
good candidate for cleaning. Cleaning one's 'house',
i.e. body,
is, however, more than an outward experience. It is a
lesson
in cleansing the body inside from
all that would seek to hurt
or harm it. This cleansing process includes
eliminating hidden,
unwanted 'house guests' known as parasites.

6) LIVING
Recipe:
Pumpkin
Seed Dip
While cleansing the body can sometimes be viewed as a
unwelcomed chore, it can be tasty and fun.
Incorporating
pumpkin seeds into one's diet helps eliminate harmful
parasites, especially tape and round worms. David
Wolfe,
internationally-renown raw foodist, recommends eating
a
handful of pumpkin seeds each week to 'keep parasites
away.' This simple cleansing strategy is worth
trying. Here
is a recipe I invented awhile ago that is a tasty way
to chase parasites out of your 'house!'
2 cups pumpkin seeds
1 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup hemp seed
3 large garlic
1 medium onion
1/3- 1/2 red pepper
1/2 cup parsley
4 T. cumin
1/2 t. curry powder
2 T. dulse
2 oranges, juiced
Soak pumkin and sunflower seeds
4-8 hours, rinse, drain, and
then process them in a food processor until they are
finely
chopped. Add remaining ingredients and then process
again
until thoroughly mixed. If necessary, add more liquid
(juice or
filtered water) to achieve a creamy texture. Serve as
a dip,
spread, stuffing, or salad topping. No matter what,
enjoy!
Organic ingredients recommended.
