Ministry update
Dear
Friends,
Greetings
once again from the rural reaches of Maine
where life is anything but laid-back! Relentless
rains
and almost daily showers have dampened spirits
and drowned many gardens. Nevertheless, with
perseverance and sometimes reluctant reseeding,
the season is finally off to a start. Thankfully,
periods
of warm if not hot sun are bringing out the best in
everyone, including life-giving foods from the earth!
With
the season of fresh garden harvests, it is the
perfect time of year to be healthy! The abundance
of locally-grown produce is an inspiration to eaters
of all kinds, especially those who want to enjoy a
healthier quality of life. Junk food is out and
fresh,
organic foods are in! Hooray! Celebrate the season
by feasting on food at its best and grow healthy!
How do
you grow healthy? Our HANDS-ON HEALTH
meeting this month, 'Making It Live!',
will walk you through the process. A demonstration on
how to
handle and prepare living foods will help boost
confidence in the kitchen. Learn the art of raw
cuisine
by experiencing first hand how to make a refreshing
summer juice, smoothie, pesto, and more. Taste
delicious samples! This meeting is a good opportunity
to introduce family and friends to the living foods
'Hallelujah' lifestyle, so plan to attend and bring
others. Learn more about this HANDS-ON HEALTH meeting
here.
To help celebrate the season in healthy
style,
this month's featured article is entitled, 'Summer
Eating.' Simple in approach but practical in
content,
this writing serves to encourage the reader to
embrace
the season by returning to the 'garden of eatin':
choosing a living foods diet for the sake of personal
wellness. Proper diet is the foundation for ultimate
health. Therefore, take advantage of this season of
readily-available living foods to experience a new
dimension in your quality of life. Read-up and then
'tank up' on those garden 'goodies!'
Considering
the many important developments
happening across the country and around the
world, links to important reports follow
along
in this newsletter. Topping the list is the
recent
passage of national healthcare, a mandate that
threatens our right to be free and healthy.
Surviving this political debacle promises to be a
challenge as the sickness industry enlarges its
control on the US population, ultimately seeking to
destroy them. Adding to this nightmare of forced
'healthcare' are massive crop failures, raging
wildfires, record high temperatures, drought,
dangerously high radiation leaks from Fukushima
nuclear reactors, increasing solar activity, and
widespread power outages. These multiple
disasters signal staggering food shortages and
higher food prices. Consider the bigger picture
and plan accordingly. Educate yourself on important
health-related issues so that you can better
understand the times in which we live.
Those
of us at The Living Way continue to persevere
in our efforts to be strong and healthy. Daily we are
profoundly thankful for our many blessings,
especially
the abundance of beautiful food that comes in from
our backyard. While many across the country are
suffering loss, we are enjoying prosperity. Ours is a
simple life, centered on YHVH and His word. One
of our joys is creating in our Living Kitchen. As
beautiful food comes our way, we keep our appliances
humming and our tastebuds 'on the ready!' New
recipes are born everyday. As the garden matures,
the arrival of ripened strawberries, blackberries,
and raspberries is a delight. Topping it all off are
the many
welcomed, wild edibles growing 'outback' plus the
promise of another record Concord Grape harvest.
Thanks to abundant spring/summer rains, the vines
are super long and sport oodles of 'super fruit!'
A brief report from the backyard is now posted on
our Garden Log 2012. Take our new
'Garden Tour'
for an 'up-close-and-personal' experience!
Keep
in mind that next month marks our annual
LIVE FOOD PICNIC. This event is traditionally a
fun time for all, filled with festive food and
friendly
fellowship. Plan to join us for a splendid evening of
healthy eating at its best. Due to the picnic
preparations
and a planned vacation on our part, there will be no
newsletter next month. However, email announcements
for the LIVE FOOD PICNIC will be transmitted.
In closing, summer flies by all too quickly, so don't
let it escape without doing something healthy for
yourself! Life is precious. Make every moment
count by slowing down and rediscovering the
simple joys of living. No matter your situation,
choose to be healthy and live!
Beloved,
concerning all things I
desire thee to prosper, and to be
in health, even as thy soul doth
prosper, 3 John 1:2
I call
heaven and earth to record
this day against you, that I have set
before you life and death, blessing
and cursing: therefore choose life,
that both thou and thy seed may
live: Deuteronomy 30:19

Recipe: Garlic-Scape Pesto
What do you do with
those 'scapes' that 'escape'
on their way to seeding? Eat them! The 'seed
shoots' sent up by the garlic plant as it matures
not only need to be cut off (to push the life force
down into the bulb) but eaten! One good way to
enjoy garlic scapes is to make a pesto. Quick
and easy, this pesto promises to please any
palate (especially that of garlic lovers) while
delivering great nutrition!
1.5 cups garlic
scapes, chopped
1/3 cup walnuts (presoaked and rinsed)
3 T. hemp ( or olive, flax) oil
handful fresh herbs of choice (tarragon, rosemary,
etc.)
1.5 T. dulse flakes
Purified water, if needed
Place all ingredients in a food processor and
process until smooth. Add water as necessary.
Use as a dip or a topping on salads, raw wraps,
crackers, dip, sprouted or cooked grains/pasta.
Stores well in the refrigerator for a few days
and can be frozen for later use.
Organic ingredients always recommended.
