Ministry update
Dear
Friends,
Greetings
from the land of drifting snow! For the
first time in several years, Maine is enjoying an
old fashioned winter, complete with sub-zero
temperatures and the sound of snow plows day
and night. Inbetween storms, I bolt outside to
survey the landscape and muse at the rising walls
of snow that line the neighborhood. Despite the
look and feel of winter, bright sunshine and blue
skies instinctively tell me that spring is on its
way.
With great expectation, I wait patiently for the
warm!
Inside,
we Living-Wayers are keeping the home
fires burning...literally! On colder days, we camp
out in the kitchen around our wood stove to enjoy
our Hallelujah meals. For us, life is simple and
healthy. Thanks to the warmth of the wood stove,
sprouts are growing at record speed. We're
enjoying our many 'roots' from the root cellar as
well as our raw soup bases and fruit compotes
that we tucked into the freezer last fall. We're
also busy making culinary treats and dehydrated
sweets! We are ever-thankful for the quality of
life that we enjoy and are privileged to share with
others.
By way
of report, last month's health meeting
on fermented foods was a resounding success
that garnered much enthusiasm on the part of
those who attended, many of whom were new
faces. Enthusiasm ran high has our presenter
rolled up his sleeves and 'went wild' with his
fermentation demonstration. If you missed
this meeting or want to experience it again,
consider purchasing a DVD from Channel 7.

This
month we will hold our annual LIVE FOOD
DINNER at the Winslow Public Library. Mark
your
calendar for February 18 and plan to attend! This
is traditionally a popular event that combines
extraordinary, healthy food and lively socializing.
Topping off the evening will be a presentation by
Jim Merkel from the New Forest Institute in Brooks,
Maine. Jim is co-director of this educational,
non-profit organization that focuses on sustainable
relationships between people and the land. It offers
many programs in support of its mission, including
CSAs. Jim's presentation promises to be insightful
and inspiring! Join us for this once-a-year live food
extravaganza and educational opportunity. Bring
a raw creation to share. More details about our
LIVE FOOD DINNER are posted here!
Other healthy happenings are in the works,
including another visit from our AtlasPROFlaxis
friend, Christine Bemish. An early April venue
is a possibility. If you or someone you know would
like an atlas vertebra correction, please contact us.
More information about this non-invasive massage
therapy is posted on our website here.
This
month's feature article, 'Making Healthier
Choices,' is written with all live food converts in
mind. Choosing to be healthy is an on-going
process
that begins with daily diet decisions. What to eat
and
what not to eat is the question! The guidelines
presented
in this writing will help take the guess work out of
the
diet dilemma. Use this article to begin a health
revolution in your life!
As
usual, we encourage you to check out the
news links contained in this newsletter. Of
special
interest is the 'Raw
foods vs. cooked foods' article
as bulleted below. Please take time to read this
report
as it serves to prove the profound connection between
diet and health. Simple science does not lie. What
goes into the mouth daily does affect health. After
reading this report, you will better understand why
we persevere with this health ministry. Other news
links posted herein support health-related issues
that
are worth your consideration. For the sake of better
health, educate yourself!
Speaking
of news, severe, weather patterns across
the country have caught many Americans off-guard.
Numerous reports of power outages, impassable
roads, flight cancellations, disruption of emergency
services, etc. beg consideration. When all is said
and done, personal emergency preparations can
make the difference between life and death. For
more information about 'Healthy Survival' read
LIVING Letter
#36.
Speaking
of adverse weather, we at The Living Way
are thankful for the mercy of YHVH that has kept
predicted severe storms away from our area.
Whereas we have more snow than usual, we have
been spared the extreme snowfalls to our south.
We have also been spared high winds and ice.
Escaping these potentially dangerous conditions
we attribute to prayer. Whereas we are prepared
to face emergency, our trust is first and foremost
in YHVH. Therefore we give Him the glory for
keeping us in this, His day of storm.
As
spring stirs in the hearts of gardeners, be sure
to order your seeds and take advantage of local,
garden-related workshops to educate yourself on
the fine art of growing your own food. With food
prices rising at record rates and food shortages
showing up on store shelves, praticing a little
food security in your own backyard is a good idea.
Check out our LIVING Resources below for more
information.
In
closing, choose to live and live to help others.
While the world is hurting and human suffering is
at an all-time high, choose to be different by making
better lifestyle choices. In the final analysis, how
well you take care of yourself may be the only hope
for your family, neighborhood, church group, etc. Be
an example of radiant health- both naturally and
spiritually! Prove to yourself and those
around
you that there is a better way to live...'you
don't have to be sick!'

6) LIVING
Recipe: Almond-Walnut Dream Loaf
Lily has done it
again! With flair and fine taste, Lily
has created another culinary masterpiece that I
believe is her best. This raw nut loaf is easy to
make and is a great finale for any lunch or dinner
meal. It has quickly become a favorite at our
house. We think that you will like it!
1 cup almonds
1 cup walnuts
3 ribs celery
3 medium-large carrots
1 medium yellow onion
1 Tbsp. hemp oil
2 heaping Tbsp. poultry seasoning
1/2 tsp. kelp powder (or to taste)
2 Tbsp. cumin
1 Tbsp. raw, unfiltered honey
In a food processor,
finely chop nuts. Set aside.
Place remaining ingredients in processor basket
and finely chop. Add in chopped nuts and process
until creamy smooth. Place in a glass casserole
dish and set aside a couple hours before
refrigerating. Serve sliced. This loaf is rich and
filling! Modest portions are therefore recommended!
Organic ingredients
always recommended.
