Ministry update
Dear
Friends,
Summer
is speeding along at what seems like a
record pace. Our garden is planted, and now we
stand back to watch it grow into what we hope
will be a bountiful harvest. Daily gatherings from
the backyard and additions from local farmers'
markets once again grace our meals with the
blessings of the season. Eating healthy tastes
so good!
Life
is full of healthy happenings here at The Living
Way. We are happy to report that last month's
HANDS-ON HEALTH meeting about wild mushrooms
was a resounding success and enthusiasm for
'forest finds' has sparked interest in a field trip
to
David Spahr's wild wonderland. If you would like to
visit the 'Mushroom Maineiac' in his home habitat
and tour his edible landscape, let us know. The
venture promises to be an experience of a lifetime!
Last month we treated ourselves to a rare event:
a healthy movie. If you have the time and
opportunity,
we highly recommend that you see 'FORKS OVER
KNIVES' which is being shown in grass-root type
theatres across the country. This documentary,
featuring the life work of famed doctors,
researchers,
authors Dr. Colin T. Campbell and Dr. Caldwell
Esselstyne, delves into the nitty-gritty facts behind
the Standard American Diet as being the ultimate
weapon of mass destruction (heart disease, diabetes,
obesity, etc) that is plaguing the US. This film is a
must-see. Take family and friends. If you love meat
and dairy products, prepare for a wake-up!
Our appearance at the Volunteer Hospice of Waterville
Garden Party last month went over well. Despite if-y
weather, a good crowd turned out and many attended
our Garden Smoothie demo. Making a smoothie in a
beautiful garden setting is a perfect match: food for
the body as well as the spirit! Hosts of peonies and
purple iris on the grounds were breathtaking. Healthy
dialog and friendly, enthusiastic comments abounded.
A
good time was enjoyed by all!
Looking to this month, our HANDS-ON HEALTH
meeting, 'LIVE FOOD LIVE!', will
feature a 'live
performance' from our LIVING Kitchen. Catch
the action as I spring into a lively demonstration
on how to make raw smoothies, salads, and
treats. This venture into healthier meal preparation
promises to take the mystery and guesswork out
of eating healthy. Learn the simple mechanics and
basic principles of eating for wellness. Bring family
and friends to view the action and sample the healthy
fare! More information about our HANDS-ON HEALTH
meeting is posted here.
Next
month we will be a doubly healthy venture with
our annual LIVE FOOD PICNIC and Atlas Awareness
Day. We hope you will join us for both events. Watch
for details on our website.
This
month's feature article, 'Healthy Kitchen Talk'
is a friendly commentary about a familiar place.
While the kitchen is the heart of the home, it is
also
the heart of health. What comes out of the kitchen
will
either make or break your health. Thus, this article
contains information that is not only vital but
profound
in simplicity. Learn how to make your kitchen and
your quality of life ultimately healthy!
In an
effort to keep you abreast of health-related news,
links to articles are posted below for your
consideration.
As these reports show, it is becoming more difficult
to
live healthy in an increasingly unhealthy world.
Educate,
arm, and defend yourself with the truth. What you
learn
could save your life. Likewise, the actions you take
today
determine the quality of your tomorrow.
On the
home front, our garden is growing well despite
unpredictable weather. Thunder showers almost daily
cause me to remark that I am 'gardening underwater.'
Nevertheless, we are thankful for the abundant
harvest
that is already coming in from the backyard. For a
brief
update on our garden, read the latest here.
Apart
from these updates, there have been no new
postings on our website. The absence of same is the
result of time spent elsewhere, namely at our summer
cottage. We Living Way-ers are retreating into the
woods near the water where the sounds of wildlife are
sweet music to our ears. There is healing in
quietness
and rest. With summer quickly passing, we encourage
you to take time to re-create even as we by spending
time 'away from it all.' Learn the art of rest and
relaxation.
Rediscover what life is all about. Start to live!

household.
Thus the kitchen is well regarded as being the heart
of
the home where goodness of life orginates. This being
